Masha Hamilton
About…
Masha Hamilton worked as a foreign correspondent for The Associated Press for five years in the Middle East, covering the intefadeh, the peace process and the partial Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon. Then she spent five years in Moscow, where she was a correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, wrote a newspaper column, “Postcard from Moscow,” and reported for NBC/Mutual Radio. She traveled to Afghanistan in the spring of 2004 to report on the changing situation for women in prison, child brides, war widows and others. In 2006, she traveled in Kenya to research her third novel, The Camel Bookmobile, and to interview drought and famine victims in the isolated northeast near the border with Somalia.
Hamilton’s first novel, Staircase of a Thousand Steps, was a Booksense pick and a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. Her second, The Distance Between Us, was named one of the best books of 2004 by Library Journal. The Camel Bookmobile will be published in spring 2007 from HarperCollins. Hamilton currently lives with her family in New York City.
